Marana School District

The Marana School District is located in the northwest Tucson area, approximately 15 miles from Tucson. With a rich history of high performance and excellence, education in the Marana started early in the 1920’s, long before it was incorporated.

A foundation of the very first high school building still remains and is now known as Estes Elementary School site with the words etched “Union High School #2 – 1924.” There were only two pupils in 1922.

The Marana Elementary District was created in 1939, followed by the Marana High School District in 1942. The spending plan for the 1949-1950 school year was $147,800 for an enrollment of 350 students. Teaching staff consisted of eight elementary college teachers and six high school educators. The graduating class of 1948 consisted of four pupils and improved to 12 in 1949.

During 1953, a new Marana High School building was opened, which is known today as, Marana Middle School. Additions were created to the Marana elementary building in 1955. In 1981, the Governing Board unified the Marana Elementary District as well as the Marana High School District and now has become the Marana Unified School District #6.

The Marana Unified School District, consisting of 550 sq. miles, has grown to include eleven elementary schools, one intermediate school, two middle schools, two high schools, and one alternative school.  An employment of 1,800 full, part-time and support workers serve over 12,500 students.

The District is a vital element of the community and requires pride in understanding that they are one of many reasons people choose to stay in the Marana area. In Marana, students are challenged, relationships are constructed, and teaching is dedicated to individual student success.

From academics, to athletics, to the arts MUSD goes on to prepare leaders for tomorrow. The District prides itself on excelling and A+ schools, award-winning students and employees, high test scores, and a range of particular learning options.

With a graduation rate greater than state average, students are involved within the most relevant learning options within condition of the art environments. Class curriculum, within little course configurations, provides students an extensive, rigorous, requirements based instructional experience.
